[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] Booyoung Group Muju Deogyusan Resort announced on the 5th that it delivered a total of 40 million KRW in scholarships, 1 million KRW each, to 40 low-income college students in Seolcheon-myeon through the Wondangcheon Water Use Countermeasure Committee at the Seolcheon-myeon Resident Autonomy Center in Muju-gun on the 31st of last month.
About 20 people attended the delivery ceremony held on the 31st of last month, including Kim Byung-chul, Executive Director of Muju Deogyusan Resort, Lee Kang-jeon, Chairman of the Wondangcheon Water Use Countermeasure Committee, and Lee Young-jae, Director of Muju Disabled and Elderly Comprehensive Welfare Center.
Muju Deogyusan Resort has been providing scholarships annually to low-income college students in the region since 2005. The number of recipients has steadily increased. The number of recipients, which was about 10 to 15 people annually in 2005, increased to 40 people annually last year. Including this year, a total of about 340 local talents have benefited from scholarships totaling approximately 370 million KRW. In 2017, the resort actively supported improving the local educational environment by expanding and donating Deogyu Hall, the dormitory of Muju High School.
A representative of Muju Deogyusan Resort said, "Many people are experiencing difficulties these days due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19)," and added, "We hope that through the scholarships provided to college students, they will pursue their studies with the dream of a bright future."
