Completion of 780m Road Expansion and Sidewalk on Donggyoro 1-gil, Mangwon-dong... 203-Space Public Parking Lot on Adjacent National and Public Land... Traffic and Parking Issues Improved... Tennis Courts, Gateball Grounds, and Park on Upper Level of Parking Lot
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) recently completed road expansion work in the residential area of Mangwon-dong and the construction of a public parking lot equipped with convenience facilities, receiving high praise from residents.
In December 2018, Mapo-gu began construction to expand the width of Donggyoro 1-gil, a total of 780 meters from Mapo-gu Citizen Sports Center to Mangwon Chorok-gil, and to build a public parking lot on adjacent national and public land.
Since all construction was completed in July, local residents' satisfaction with the site has increased.
The previously narrow Donggyoro 1-gil in the area of Mangwon-dong 460-5, which was about 6 meters wide, has been expanded to 12 meters in width. Sidewalks for pedestrian safety were installed on both sides of the road.
In the past, this area had a narrow width with resident-priority parking zones coexisting, making vehicle passing impossible, and the lack of sidewalks posed safety and convenience issues for pedestrians.
Especially, as the number of park visitors increased to Mangwon Hangang Park and Seoulham Park, pedestrian inconvenience and accident risks were also rising.
Resident Yoo Young-min (55), who lives nearby, expressed satisfaction, saying, "It has become much more convenient and safer for both cars and people to pass compared to the past."
The public parking lot, named Mangwon Nadeulmok Public Parking Lot, has a single above-ground floor that can accommodate 203 cars.
Originally, the parking lot availability here was significantly low, and illegal parking during nighttime within a 300-meter radius of the project site averaged about 455 vehicles, indicating a severe parking shortage. The construction of this public parking lot is evaluated to have somewhat eased the parking difficulties in the Mangwon-dong area.
Additionally, on the 6,498㎡ area above the public parking lot, various convenience facilities such as tennis courts, gateball courts, parks, indoor badminton courts, and snow removal warehouses have been established.
Nearby residents show great satisfaction with the sports and convenience facilities created near their residences, separate from Mangwon Hangang Park.
The district spent 13.6 billion KRW from its budget and 7.4 billion KRW from the city budget for this construction.
Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "I thank the local residents for their active cooperation and support shown during the project implementation process," and added, "We will continue to discover and implement road and residential environment improvement plans that can enhance the quality of life for residents."
