[Weather] Heavy Rain Again Overnight in Central Region... Tropical Nights in Southern Region

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Heavy rain is expected to pour down overnight in the central region. The southern region will experience sleepless nights due to 'tropical nights.'

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) on the 4th at 8:10 PM, strong rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is falling at a rate of 20-30mm per hour in Gangwon-do, Chungcheong-do, and Gyeongbuk.

Gusty winds will blow mainly in the central region, with very heavy rain of 50-80mm per hour accompanied by thunder and lightning in some areas.

In Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Gangwon Yeongseo, where the rain has temporarily eased, very heavy and intense rain of 50-100mm per hour (over 120mm in some areas) is expected from night through the morning of the 5th.

The KMA explained that Typhoon No. 4 'Hagupit' weakened after making landfall in Shanghai, China, causing the rain cloud band associated with the typhoon to separate from it and move northward along the North Pacific High. This band will merge with the stationary front located in the central region, bringing heavy rain to the area.

On this day, 256.0mm of rain fell in Jangheung-ri, Dongsong-eup, Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon-do, while Haksari, Kimhwa-eup recorded 165.5mm, and Guntan-ri, Galmal-eup had 45.5mm, showing a difference of over 100mm even within the same county.

In the southern Chungcheong region, southern regions, and Jeju Island, heatwave warnings are in effect, and daytime temperatures are expected to rise above 33 degrees Celsius in many places until the 5th, making it very hot.

Additionally, tropical nights with minimum temperatures remaining above 25 degrees Celsius overnight are expected in some areas. The KMA emphasized the need to pay attention to health management and to take precautions to prevent damage to agriculture, livestock, and industry.
