[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] The government has announced plans to hire a total of 3,553 new public elementary school teachers next year.
The Ministry of Education stated on the 4th that this figure was compiled by aggregating the recruitment scales for public elementary school teachers next year from the 17 metropolitan and provincial offices of education nationwide.
Each metropolitan and provincial office of education announces the expected number of recruits in advance at least six months before the new teacher appointment exam held every November to prevent confusion among examinees. This year's advance announcement is scheduled for the 5th of this month.
The preliminary recruitment scale for public elementary school teachers nationwide next year is almost the same as the advance notice scale for the 2020 academic year announced in June last year (3,554 people).
By region, Seoul announced plans to hire 302 new teachers, which is 68 fewer (-18.4%) than this year's advance notice scale.
Gyeonggi Province announced it will recruit 1,100 teachers, 200 more (+22.2%) than this year, and Incheon also plans to increase by 90 (+112.5%) to 170 teachers.
The total recruitment scale in the metropolitan area is expected to increase by 222 (16.4%) from this year's advance notice scale of 1,350 to 1,572 next year.
In addition, the following numbers were announced in advance: ▲ Busan 380 (+40.7% compared to this year's advance notice) ▲ Daegu 90 (-10%) ▲ Gwangju 11 (+10%) ▲ Daejeon 14 (-46.2%) ▲ Ulsan 117 (-10%) ▲ Sejong 40 (-55.6%) ▲ Gangwon 141 (-43.8%) ▲ Chungbuk 75 (-50%) ▲ Chungnam 161 (-42.1%) ▲ Jeonbuk 86 (0%) ▲ Jeonnam 308 (+40%) ▲ Gyeongbuk 300 (-9.9%) ▲ Gyeongnam 210 (+5.0%) ▲ Jeju 48 (-20.0%).
