[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Baek Gun-gi, mayor of Yongin City, announced that compensation will be provided for losses incurred by medical institutions, pharmacies, and general businesses that suffered business losses due to visits by confirmed COVID-19 patients.


On the 4th, Mayor Baek stated through a Facebook live broadcast at the city hall briefing room, "The government has decided to compensate for business losses during the period facilities were closed and direct costs incurred due to disinfection orders to medical institutions and businesses," adding, "As of the end of last month, compensation will be paid to 447 places including 34 medical institutions, 42 pharmacies, and 371 general businesses in the Yongin area."


These eligible institutions can apply through the three district health centers in the Yongin area.


Mayor Baek also added, "To support the creative activities of local artists affected by COVID-19, the city will provide disaster relief funds of 300,000 KRW each to 1,000 artists through the city’s cultural foundation."


The eligible recipients are artists with addresses in the jurisdiction as of the end of July who have received certification of artistic activity from the Korea Artists Welfare Foundation. Applications can be submitted via email to the Yongin Cultural Foundation from August 5 to September 4.


With the peak vacation season beginning, the city plans to continue strengthening inspections of door-to-door sales companies and multi-use facilities where there is a risk of group infections.


Accordingly, the administrative order banning gatherings at 218 door-to-door sales companies in the jurisdiction will be extended until the 17th, and joint inspections with the government and Gyeonggi Province will be conducted from the 6th to the 12th to check compliance with preventive measures at experience and promotional centers newly opened by door-to-door sales companies.


Additionally, the city will inspect 114 accommodations, camping sites, and other facilities in the area to ensure compliance with quarantine rules.


Meanwhile, on the same day, Mayor Baek visited the nursery in Duchang-ri, Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu, which was damaged by heavy rain in the morning, to assess the damage and encourage volunteers helping with recovery efforts.


Mayor Baek canceled his planned vacation from the 3rd to the 5th after a heavy rain warning was issued on the 2nd.
