[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Junho] Postal parcel consignment delivery workers will also take a four-day break from the 14th to the 17th. The Ministry of Science and ICT's Korea Post announced on the 4th that it will participate in the 'No Delivery Day,' the first of its kind in the courier industry.

No Delivery Day was established for courier workers after 28 years since the courier industry began. Four major courier companies?CJ Logistics, Hanjin, Lotte Global Logistics, and Logen (members of the Integrated Logistics Industry Association)?accepted the 'Courier Workers' Vacation Request' from the National Courier Solidarity Union and designated the 14th as 'No Delivery Day.' The 17th is a substitute holiday, giving courier workers a four-day rest period.

At the post office, affiliated parcel consignment delivery workers will be able to spend their summer vacation with their families. As a government agency, the post office will operate normal mail acceptance services on August 13th and 14th. However, parcel acceptance will be minimized. Acceptance of refrigerated and frozen fresh food parcels will be suspended. Customers are pre-notified that delivery of other parcels may be delayed until the 17th at the latest. Cooperation letters will be sent to companies that send large volumes of parcels to encourage staggered shipments before and after No Delivery Day.

Delivery workers within the Korea Post headquarters will work normally on the 14th. The headquarters stated that they will do their best to ensure that delivery workers do not transfer the workload of parcel consignment delivery workers. They plan to maintain delivery volumes at the usual parcel levels through post office storage and handover.

Park Jong-seok, head of Korea Post, said, "I strongly agree with President Moon Jae-in's remark that it would be good if we could be happy together even if deliveries are a little delayed," and added, "Please support the summer vacation of courier workers who have had a heavy workload due to COVID-19."

For more details, please check at any post office nationwide or on the Korea Post website.
