Onui Co., Ltd. (CEO Goh Ye-jin) successfully secured an investment worth 1.8 billion KRW recently as its newly launched Seoul National University smart tutoring service, ‘Seoltap,’ continued to grow at a monthly rate of 120% last year.
Seoltap is a service that allows teachers and students to share screens and handwriting in real-time using iPads for tutoring sessions. By introducing features that differentiate it from other remote tutoring services and showcasing unique operational strategies, Seoltap recorded its highest growth in June this year by recruiting twice as many new students compared to the previous month.
In particular, within about a year of its launch, Seoltap surpassed thousands of students and 70,000 classes, gaining high popularity as it is frequently mentioned on the social media of teenagers and high school students. When applying for Seoltap tutoring, all students are matched with 100% Seoul National University teachers for all subjects.
Seoltap is not just about tutoring; it also offers smart lectures produced by its own Seoul National University content team, providing a differentiated feature that fulfills all study needs with just Seoltap. Seoltap’s efforts to overcome common drawbacks of online education have also attracted industry attention.
To overcome the passivity of online learning, the service uses an interactive handwriting sharing method instead of traditional blackboard teaching. However, since faces are not shared, students can attend classes comfortably dressed, which is another advantage.
Additionally, the handwriting on the screen, teacher’s reviews, and learning status are recorded for every class, strengthening management and self-study aspects. Recently, Seoltap introduced ‘Tutoringticons,’ which allow sending context-appropriate emoticons during lessons to facilitate rich communication and ice-breaking, earning praise from both students and teachers for enhancing both fun and class efficiency.
The rapid growth of Seoltap is attributed to the increasing market demand for ‘non-face-to-face education’ combined with the high completeness and innovation of the Seoltap service itself.
Accordingly, Onui is currently sailing smoothly after successfully securing 1.8 billion KRW in investment from Hana Ventures and Strong Ventures. According to Onui officials, well known for the Q&A app ‘Onui,’ this investment will be used to continuously invest in enhancing the enjoyment and satisfaction of the study experience, starting with ‘Tutoringticons.’
Goh Ye-jin, CEO of Onui, stated, “Onui’s ultimate goal is to ‘make all teenagers happy,’ and the first step is to make the study experience, which accounts for more than 50% of teenagers’ daily lives, a happy one. Building on the current growth momentum, we will lead the transformation of teenagers’ study experiences into excitement and enjoyment and strive to achieve our vision as the NO.1 Interesting study.”
