7 Sections Including Sadang Station, Sindaebang 1-dong, Sangdo 1-dong, Total 678 Units Including 370 Jeonju and 308 Utility Poles
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Chang-woo Lee) will begin repairing defective overhead lines in seven sections within the district starting this month.
Defective overhead lines, caused by an increase in broadcasting and telecommunications service subscribers and the failure to remove unused communication lines, are tangled disorderly on utility poles, damaging the cityscape and causing various safety accidents.
Accordingly, since 2011, the district has been systematically repairing overhead lines in cooperation with eight broadcasting and telecommunications operators, including Korea Electric Power Corporation and KT.
So far, more than 1,500 utility poles and cables have been repaired in areas urgently needing defective overhead line repairs and at requested sites.
Kim ** (58, self-employed), a merchant at Seongdae Market in Sangdo-dong where defective overhead lines were repaired last year, said, “The repair of defective overhead lines has made the roads and alleys cleaner, and I feel safe from fires and electric shock accidents caused by electricity.”
In December last year, the district selected project sites to be promoted this year, focusing on areas with many requests for defective overhead line repairs through a status survey by each neighborhood.
The repair zones include seven sections around Sadang Station, Isumiro-gil in Sadang 2-dong, Sindaebang 1-dong, Heukseok-dong, Sangdo 1-dong, Soongsil University Entrance Station, and Sangdo 3-dong Community Service Center, totaling 678 poles?370 utility poles and 308 communication poles. The project is carried out with broadcasting and telecommunications companies bearing the costs themselves, so significant effects are expected without budget input.
The repair targets include unused overhead lines, equipment cabinets for base stations, excessively long slack cables, feeder lines, and other defective overhead lines. Communication lines will be consolidated into one, slack wires will be tightened, or removed if unnecessary.
Additionally, in November, the district plans to inspect repair performance by each operator and compliance with overhead line repair guidelines, and if necessary, conduct joint inspections with the Central Radio Management Office.
The district will invest a total budget of about 18.7 billion KRW by 2022 to carry out an underground utility pole project over approximately 3.85 km from Sangdo Station to Sindaebang Samgeori Station, and this year will promote undergrounding over a 1.04 km section from Sangdo Station to Sangdo 2-dong Community Service Center.
Moon Young-sam, head of the Street Administration Division, said, “We will do our best to resolve residents’ daily inconveniences and improve the cityscape through this overhead line repair.”
