[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] As the COVID-19 pandemic prolongs, major industries are strengthening Ontact marketing, and Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics also plan to focus on promoting new products online in the second half of the year.

According to the electronics industry on the 1st, Samsung Electronics has decided not to participate in the International Funkausstellung (IFA) held in September and plans to independently announce new products under the theme 'Life Unstoppable' around the same time. The event will be conducted online, but considering the COVID-19 situation, the possibility of an offline component is also being reviewed.

At this event, Samsung Electronics is expected to unveil its second half lineup, including TVs, kimchi refrigerators, and new home appliances, utilizing virtual reality (VR) technology.

The Galaxy Unpacked event will also be held online. New products such as the Galaxy Z Fold2 and Galaxy Note20 are expected to be revealed at the event scheduled for early this month.

LG Electronics has decided to attend this year's IFA but plans to significantly reduce the scale of the event compared to previous years.

During the recent Q2 earnings conference call, LG Electronics stated, “The importance of online channels is increasing in terms of marketing, and changes are also occurring in business aspects,” adding, “We intend to strengthen online brand shops and promote activities centered on digital marketing.”

Previously, the company announced the washing and drying machine ‘Tromm WashTower’ and the smartphone ‘LG Velvet’ online. Recently, all three rounds of online pre-order sales events for the 48-inch OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) TV were sold out.

The trend of strengthening Ontact in the electronics industry is expected to intensify further. The world's largest electronics exhibition, CES, held in Las Vegas, USA, early next year, has also decided to be held online, establishing itself as a central promotional tool.

An industry official said, “The opportunity to experience products and new technologies online from anywhere, free from the limitations of physical locations, will gradually increase.”
