Reported 'luxury memberships' including 300 million KRW golf and 40 million KRW fitness memberships

[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sun-hee] Former Busan Mayor Oh Keo-don, who admitted to sexual harassment of an employee and voluntarily resigned last April, reported assets totaling 6,737,940,000 KRW at the time of his retirement. This amount increased by 290,190,000 KRW in just four months compared to the amount reported as of December last year, mainly due to the rise in real estate values.
According to the "July Interim Asset Disclosure Status" published in the government gazette by the Government Public Officials Ethics Committee on the 31st, Mayor Oh reported these asset details. The current interim asset disclosure subjects include 58 high-ranking officials appointed or dismissed in April.
Mayor Oh reported ownership of a Hyundai 3rd Apartment (131.83㎡) in Gaepo-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, valued at 1,674,000,000 KRW, and his spouse's ownership of a Doosan We've Zenith apartment in U-dong, Haeundae-gu, Busan, valued at 1,127,000,000 KRW. The total value of these two residences is 2,810,000,000 KRW, which increased by 378,000,000 KRW in four months from the previous reported amount of 2,423,000,000 KRW.
The total deposits held by him and his immediate family were reported as 3,164,490,000 KRW. The land value owned by him was also reported as 986,410,000 KRW.
Additionally, he reported ownership of a golf membership worth 316,000,000 KRW and a health club membership at the Chosun Hotel Busan valued at 30,000,000 KRW. His spouse's assets included a Hilton Namhae Golf Resort condo membership worth 47,000,000 KRW, a Muju Deogyusan Resort condo membership worth 22,000,000 KRW, and a diamond (1.3 carats) valued at 15,000,000 KRW.
Among the current officials subject to this interim asset disclosure, the highest asset holder was Choi Jin-bong, Mayor of Jung-gu, Busan, who reported a total of 8,158,530,000 KRW. He was followed by Park Jae-wan, member of the Chungcheongbuk-do Provincial Council with 6,929,200,000 KRW, and Ha Byung-pil, Deputy Governor of Gyeongnam Province, with 6,829,220,000 KRW.
Among retirees, Shin In-seok, former member of the Bank of Korea Monetary Policy Committee, reported the highest assets at 8,721,940,000 KRW, followed by Lee Junho, former member of the Board of Audit and Inspection, with 7,283,400,000 KRW, and former Busan Mayor Oh Keo-don with 6,737,940,000 KRW.
