[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] With the launch of 'Kakao Data Trend,' Kakao is expected to intensify its competition with Naver in the 'big data service' sector.
On the 29th, Kakao announced the release of 'Kakao Data Trend,' a service that allows users to directly explore big data.
Kakao Data Trend enables users to examine integrated search term information from the portal Daum based on various criteria such as ▲period ▲device ▲gender ▲age ▲region.
Users can input up to five search terms simultaneously to compare the data of each term, and all data can be intuitively viewed in chart form.
For example, when entering the names of Kakao's five characters?'Ryan,' 'Apeach,' 'Jordi,' 'Scappy,' and 'Angmond'?simultaneously for comparison, 'Ryan' had the highest male proportion, while 'Scappy' had the highest female proportion.
Additionally, Niniz characters such as Jordi, Scappy, and Angmond were searched relatively more by the 20s and 30s age group, and Jordi's search volume surged sharply from April 20, when the 'Jordi 24 Hours' emoticon event started on KakaoPage.
Since 2016, Naver has been providing a similar service called 'Search Word Trend' on its Data Lab website. By entering a specific search term on the Naver Trend website, users can check how frequently the term was searched by period and age group.
Naver also operates a 'Shopping Insight' section on the same site. This service provides click data from Naver Shopping segmented by age, gender, and device. It is also possible to directly input and compare search terms.
Kakao plans to add more services in the future. A Kakao representative stated, "Currently, we only provide search term data, but Kakao plans to update additional data in various fields such as content and business," adding, "We aim to develop Kakao Data Trend into Korea's representative big data inquiry platform."
