[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] India is strengthening its ban on Chinese applications (apps). Following the ban on 59 apps including TikTok and WeChat, an additional 47 apps have been blocked.
On the 28th, the Times of India reported that India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has further prohibited the use of 47 Chinese apps within the country. This measure comes almost a month after the ban on 59 Chinese apps, bringing the total number of Chinese apps banned in India to 106.
An official from the authorities stated that although the Indian government has not officially announced the additional ban on Chinese apps, such measures may continue in the future, leaving open the possibility of further blocking of Chinese apps.
India is blocking the use of Chinese apps on the grounds that they infringe upon India's sovereignty, security, and public order. However, since the ban intensified following the bloody border clash between the Indian and Chinese armies on June 15, the interpretation that India's actions are largely 'retaliatory' in nature is dominant.
