[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] La Bella Opera Company’s "Overcoming COVID-19 - Cheer Up Korea Opera Gala Concert," featuring a large lineup of Korea’s representative opera singers, concluded successfully.


La Bella Opera Company held the gala concert from the 24th to the 26th at the Opera Theater of the Seoul Arts Center with the purpose of expressing gratitude and support to the medical staff and citizens exhausted by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).


The performance featured world-renowned vocalists including tenors Park Ki-cheon, Shin Sang-geun, Lee Jae-sik; sopranos Oh Mi-sun, Lee Hwa-young, Go Hyun-ah, Kang Hye-myung; and mezzo-soprano Kim Jeong-mi. Also appearing were actively performing domestic sopranos Lee Jeong-eun, Lee Da-mi, Lee Min-jung, Han Eun-hye, Choi Young-shin, Kim Hyo-joo, Kang Chae-won, Hong Seon-jin, Kim Areum, Kwon Hyun-i; tenors Seo Pil, Kim Jung-il, Won Yoo-dae, Kim Ji-min; baritones Lee Yong-chan, Jang Sung-il, Park Kyung-jun, Park Geon-woo, Choi Byung-hyuk, Kim Won, Go Byung-jun, and Lee Chi-hoon.


Including 32 opera singers, 40 members of the opera choir, 60 orchestra members, and a children’s choir, the total cast approached 200, presenting a splendid and rich stage. The conductor was Yang Jin-mo, the resident conductor of the Classica Orchestra, who delivered profound music. The production and narration were handled by director Ahn Joo-eun, who is an invited professor in the Practical Music Department at Dankook University and actively involved in the domestic music scene. Participating ensembles included the Met Opera Choir, La Fuse Players Group, and Brillante Children’s Choir.


The performance was divided into "HIGHLIGHT OF THE OPERA" and "ENJOY THE OPERA," with two shows each, totaling four performances.


In "HIGHLIGHT OF THE OPERA," famous scenes from four operas most frequently performed and loved worldwide?The Barber of Seville, The Elixir of Love, Rigoletto, and Carmen?were presented. "ENJOY THE OPERA" featured a collection of well-known masterpieces from operas familiar to the general public.


La Bella Opera Company is currently producing Korea’s first opera documentary, "Opera is Also Fun." The footage from this performance will be included in the documentary, which is scheduled to be released next year.
