Gwangju City Conducts Consulting with Human Rights Promotion Citizen Committee and Human Rights Experts


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 27th that it will conduct human rights expert consulting together with the city's Human Rights Promotion Citizens' Committee for the continuous and effective implementation plan of the human rights city of Gwangju.


The human rights promotion and human rights city implementation plan consists of 118 action tasks in 6 areas including promotion of human rights for socially vulnerable groups, strengthening human rights systems and administration, formation of a human rights community culture, establishment of a human rights administration cooperative system, enhancement of the status of human rights city Gwangju, and practice of the Gwangju Human Rights Charter, according to the 2nd basic plan for human rights promotion and human rights city. It is being promoted by 33 departments of the city.


The city's Human Rights Promotion Citizens' Committee is a committee established to deliberate and advise on matters related to guaranteeing and promoting citizens' human rights and fostering a human rights city. Through consulting on the implementation plan tasks of the human rights city, it improves the human rights sensitivity of the staff in charge and implements human rights-based administration. In particular, it is meaningful in promoting public-private cooperation with the Human Rights Promotion Citizens' Committee.


The consulting for the human rights promotion implementation plan is carried out by 9 members, including Chairman An Jin, who share roles by specialized fields and proceed with the annual implementation plan tasks.


The members select 2 to 3 key tasks in each of the 6 fields?▲persons with disabilities ▲elderly ▲women ▲children and youth ▲human rights administration?and discover human rights policies that meet citizens' perspectives through interviews with the staff in charge.


First, on the afternoon of the 30th, Gwangju City and the city's Human Rights Promotion Citizens' Committee will hold a consulting session on disability-related fields such as mental health promotion facilities, residential facilities for persons with disabilities, and low-floor buses at City Hall, attended by 8 people including human rights promotion citizens' committee members in the disability field, human rights experts, and staff from the Health Policy Division, Disability Welfare Division, and Public Transportation Division.


Subsequently, consulting will be sequentially conducted on the fields of elderly, women, children and youth, and human rights administration until September.


Kim Yong-man, Director of the Democratic Human Rights Division of the city, said, “We expect that human rights policies that citizens can feel will be prepared through consulting by the Human Rights Promotion Citizens' Committee composed of human rights experts from various sectors.”
