Jang Ha-sung: "Agreed on Visa Issuance for Chinese Students and Workers"... Available from Next Month

[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Cho Young-shin] Visa issuance for Korean international students and workers in China, which had been suspended since the COVID-19 pandemic, is expected to resume as early as next month.

Jang Ha-sung, the South Korean Ambassador to China, stated at a meeting with Beijing correspondents on the 27th, "China has agreed to issue visas to three groups: international students, workers holding Z visas, and Korean residents with valid residence permits at the time of visa application." The visa issuance is expected to begin in early next month.

However, those who possess residence permits but whose permits have expired are excluded from eligibility for entry. Regarding this, Ambassador Jang said, "Further discussions are needed for those whose permits have already expired."

Previously, the Chinese government had taken measures since the end of March to prevent re-importation of COVID-19 by prohibiting entry even to foreigners holding valid stay visas and residence permits. The South Korean Embassy in China plans to hold a consulate chiefs' meeting on the 28th to discuss matters related to visa issuance.
