Highlighting the Unique Features of Cheongun Literature Library Specialized in Poetry: Free Use of Hanok Creative Room 1 for Writers with Over 3 Years of Experience in Poetry and Novel Fields... Apply by Email to Jongno Cultural Foundation by July 26
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jongno-gu (Mayor Kim Young-jong) is operating the ‘Writer’s Room’ within Cheongun Literature Library (40 Jahamun-ro 36-gil), the first hanok public library in the area specialized in literature, and is recruiting writers who will carry out creative activities there.
The Writer’s Room is a project that leverages the characteristics of Cheongun Literature Library, which specializes in poetry and literature. By providing part of the library space to writers, it aims to contribute to creative activities and offer local residents and library users an opportunity to get closer to the literary genre.
This year, the Writer’s Room operation period is from August 4 to November 29.
The residency periods are divided into two terms: the first from August 4 to September 27, and the second from October 6 to November 29, with one writer recruited for each period.
The eligibility is for writers who have been officially published in poetry, novels, or related fields for more than three years.
Applications must be submitted by July 26 via the Jongno Cultural Foundation website, sending the application form and proof of activity records to the Cultural Planning Team’s email (amos760@jfac.or.kr).
The successful candidates will be announced on July 29, and upon final selection, one hanok creative room will be provided free of charge to support active creative work.
For more detailed information regarding the recruitment of resident writers, please refer to the Jongno Cultural Foundation website or contact the Cultural Planning Team.
Cheongun Literature Library is the first hanok public library in Jongno-gu, facing the beautiful scenery of Hanyangdoseong Trail and Inwangsan Mountain. Nearby are the Yun Dong-ju Literature Museum and Poet’s Hill, making it a hot spot where one can fully experience the history and culture of Seoul.
The library holds a variety of literary books mainly focused on poetry, novels, and essays, providing residents with a space for reading, contemplation, and rest.
Additionally, it has consistently hosted diverse cultural and artistic programs such as curated exhibitions centered on domestic literary works and authors, humanities lectures, and poetry writing classes. The library operates from Tuesday to Sunday and is closed on Mondays, Lunar New Year, Chuseok holidays, and other designated days.
Until November this year, ten books selected for the ‘One Library One Book’ program are exhibited year-round, and the children’s reading room features monthly picture book original art exhibitions.
The July original art exhibition features the book Bad Day by author Sung Young-ran, with the exhibition running until the 25th.
Mayor Kim Young-jong stated, “The Cheongun-dong area, where Cheongun Literature Library is located, is a culturally specialized area with nearby facilities such as the Yun Dong-ju Literature Museum, and its scenery is exceptionally beautiful, attracting much love from many people. Leveraging these advantages, we have launched the Writer’s Room project to provide free space within the library to writers so they can actively engage in creative activities. We hope those who wish to dedicate themselves to creative work in a hanok library where the traditional atmosphere is fully felt will apply.”
