Twitter "Approximately 130 Accounts Targeted by Hacking"

[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Social networking service (SNS) Twitter has announced interim investigation results related to the hacking incident of celebrity accounts. Twitter has identified that hackers have attempted to hack 130 accounts so far.

Through its official account, Twitter stated on the 16th (local time), "Based on what has been identified so far, about 130 accounts have been targeted by attackers (hackers). It appears that hackers have gained control over some of these accounts and posted tweets."

Twitter added, "We are currently working with the owners of the affected accounts, and this will continue over the next few days," and "We are assessing whether any private data has been compromised, and if confirmed, we will provide updates."

This incident became known after scam posts involving Bitcoin appeared on Twitter accounts of celebrities such as former U.S. President Barack Obama, U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Twitter responded by deleting the scam posts, but it is reported that some users transferred amounts totaling approximately $110,000 (about 130 million KRW).

Twitter stated, "We will take proactive measures to protect the system during the ongoing investigation," and "We will share related details as soon as possible."
