Daegu City Receives 3,084 Applications for 2,023 Women’s Hope Jobs in 2023

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City announced on the 17th that a total of 3,084 people applied for 2,023 recruitment positions related to the 'Daegu-type Women’s Hope Job Project to Overcome COVID-19,' recording an average competition rate of 1.52 to 1.

Due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the number of employed persons and employment rate in the Daegu area have shown a declining trend (3.7% and 1.7% respectively compared to the previous year as of June), with the decline in the female employment rate being four times that of males. In particular, temporary and daily jobs in small-scale businesses, where women mainly work, have significantly decreased.

Accordingly, Daegu City discovered 2,023 Daegu-type women’s job projects and recruited applicants through the Women’s New Employment Centers (5 locations, hereafter referred to as New Employment Centers) from the 1st to the 10th of this month.

The number of applicants by the five New Employment Centers was highest at Dalseo New Employment Center (located in Seo-gu) with 893 applicants. This was followed by Suseong New Employment Center (located in Suseong-gu) with 723 applicants, Nambu New Employment Center (located in Nam-gu) with 529 applicants, Daegu New Employment Center (located in Buk-gu) with 510 applicants, and Shindalseo New Employment Center (located in Dalseo-gu) with 429 applicants.

By project sector, the childcare centers under the living quarantine support project recruited 1,933 people and received 2,496 applications, showing a competition rate of 1.29 to 1. Childcare facilities recruited 37 people and received 36 applications (1 short). Women’s employment institutions recruited 20 people and had 183 applicants, showing a competition rate of 9.15 to 1, and the Children’s Hall recruited 5 people with 23 applicants, showing a competition rate of 4.6 to 1.

The public work support sector with the highest competition rate was district/county administrative support personnel, recruiting 9 people with 152 applicants, recording a competition rate of 16.8 to 1. Youth facility administrative support recruited 20 people and had 194 applicants, showing a competition rate of 9.7 to 1.

Daegu City plans to announce the screening results on the 29th after verifying disqualified candidates through confirmation of enrollment in the four major insurances and checks for sex crimes and child abuse crimes. Women who applied for this Daegu-type women’s job project will receive support not only for the hope job project but also for employment information, job matching consultations, vocational training, company employment linkage, and start-up support through the jurisdictional New Employment Centers even after the project ends.

Kang Myung-sook, Director of the Women and Youth Education Bureau of Daegu City, said, "We will support local women whose employment opportunities have decreased due to COVID-19 to engage in economic activities through this hope job project, and even after the project ends, we will do our best to expand job opportunities for career-interrupted women in connection with the five New Employment Centers in the region."
