[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] The Agricultural Technology Center of Gyeongsan City, Gyeongbuk Province, announced on the 16th that it will extend the deadline for the 50% discount on agricultural machinery rental fees, originally scheduled until the end of this month, to the end of December.
Gyeongsan City explained that this measure is for local farmers who are suffering from double hardships due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic causing regional economic downturn and labor shortages during the busy farming season.
Since the 50% discount on rental fees began on March 15, as of July 13, 1,596 farmers have used the agricultural machinery rental service, an increase of about 24% compared to the previous year. The number of rental equipment used was 4,893 units, showing an increase of about 37%.
Kim Jong-dae, head of the Gyeongsan Agricultural Technology Center, said, "We are pleased that the 50% discount on agricultural machinery rental fees has been extended so that more farmers can benefit," adding, "We will actively promote effective agricultural policies to overcome COVID-19."
