[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Female lawmakers of the United Future Party urged President Moon Jae-in to "stop selective silence and clarify his position on the sexual harassment case involving the late Mayor Park Won-soon."
The female lawmakers of the United Future Party said at the National Assembly Communication Office on the 16th, "Until just two years ago, President Moon expressed respect for the courage of victims who revealed their experiences and actively supported the Me Too movement, but he has not made any statement regarding the sexual harassment case of the late Mayor Park and the victims involved."
They asked, "How long will the silence continue?" and added, "We only hope that the president's selective silence will not be perceived as 'tacit consent.' We urge the president to immediately clarify his position."
They also criticized the ruling party, government, and Blue House for using the term 'victim complainant.' The female lawmakers of the United Future Party said, "It seems that the ruling party, government, Blue House, and Seoul City have conspired to disguise the victim as a 'victim complainant.' We demand an immediate cessation of the use of the term 'victim complainant.'"
They urged Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae, saying, "The authority to direct investigations exists for times like this," and added, "Instead of misusing it, we hope the minister personally investigates who, when, and how information about the sexual crime case was leaked and uncovers the truth." They also raised their voices demanding Minister of Gender Equality and Family Lee Jung-ok to clarify her position on the late Mayor Park's case and establish measures to eradicate such incidents.
To National Police Agency Commissioner General Min Gap-ryong, they said, "Swiftly conduct forensic analysis on Mayor Park's mobile phone, and be sure to find evidence related to the sexual harassment allegations and the leak of investigation information, then submit it to the prosecution."
They continued, "Seoul City should immediately halt the formation of the joint public-private investigation team," pointing out, "Seoul City, which is suspected of systematically covering up sexual harassment through abuse of power, is the key subject of investigation in this sexual harassment allegation case, so it is absurd for Seoul City to organize the investigation team."
