8 Specialized High Schools Establish and Revise New Industry Departments
New Materials Design, Smart Machinery & Content, Internet of Things, etc.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] In response to the changing industrial structure and the demands of students and parents, eight departments across eight specialized high schools in the Busan area will be transformed into departments focused on advanced industrial fields.
On the 15th, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced that, according to the '2020 Vocational High School Department Restructuring Project,' it will reorganize departments to cultivate talent suited for the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, including new industry sectors and regional strategic industries.
According to the restructuring plan by the Office of Education, Dongmyeong Technical High School’s Mechanical Department will be changed to the Smart Mechanical Department; Daejin Electronics and Telecommunications High School’s Electronics and Telecommunications Department will become the Smart Contents Department; Busan Digital High School’s Digital Electrical Department will be reorganized into the Fire Safety Department; and Busan Computer Science High School’s Software and Financial Accounting Departments will be merged into the Internet of Things Department.
Additionally, Busan Girls' Commercial High School’s Trade Department will be changed to the IT Office Administration Department; Busan Tax High School’s Tax Accounting Department will become the Companion Animal Care Department; and Busan Tourism High School’s Tourism Convention and Korean Cuisine Cooking Departments will be reorganized into the Cafe Bakery Department. A New Materials Design Department will be newly established at Gyeongnam Technical High School.
These departments will begin recruiting new students starting from the 2022 academic year. To support this, a budget of 250 million KRW per class and consulting necessary for the department restructuring will be provided.
Superintendent Kim Seok-jun stated, “This department restructuring aims to enhance the competitiveness of specialized high schools in line with the changing times,” adding, “Students in the Busan area will be able to acquire the professional skills required by future society.”
