[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Min Jun-young] Adebayor Akinfenwa, a striker for Wycombe Wanderers known as an ardent fan of England's Premier League (EPL) club Liverpool, has been invited to Liverpool's league-winning parade.
On the 15th (Korean time), the British BBC online news reported, "Akinfenwa was invited to Liverpool's victory parade by Liverpool manager J?rgen Klopp."
Recently, after Liverpool secured the league title, Akinfenwa appeared at Wycombe's training ground wearing a Liverpool jersey to celebrate the victory. The team then disciplined Akinfenwa for this.
Upon news of Akinfenwa's disciplinary action, several Liverpool players including Klopp and Virgil van Dijk sent messages of support and gratitude.
Subsequently, after Wycombe's promotion to the Championship was confirmed, Klopp called Akinfenwa to congratulate him and invited him to join Liverpool's victory parade.
Meanwhile, Akinfenwa transferred from AFC Wimbledon to Wycombe in 2016 and has continued his playing career there.
He scored 10 league goals in the 2019-2020 League One (third division) season. He contributed to the team's promotion to the EFL Championship (second division) by defeating Fleetwood Town and Oxford United in the English League One promotion playoffs.
