Accurately Measuring the Performance of Eco-Friendly 'Sujeonhae' Technology

[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] Evaluation equipment capable of precisely measuring the performance and efficiency of water electrolysis devices that produce eco-friendly hydrogen by separating water has been developed.

Dr. Changhee Kim's research team at the Hydrogen Research Division of the Korea Institute of Energy Research announced on the 15th that they have developed water electrolysis evaluation equipment that, along with conventional voltage efficiency measurement, can measure in real time the flow rate, concentration, and mixing degree of hydrogen and oxygen gases generated during the operation of the water electrolysis cell, and precisely determine the amount of hydrogen produced relative to the applied current (current efficiency).

Using this equipment, the research team easily monitored information about the hydrogen and oxygen gases generated during the operation of the water electrolysis cell in real time. Based on this, they verified the responsiveness and reliability of the water electrolysis cell when linked with renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, which experience significant fluctuations in electricity production depending on the weather.

Dr. Changhee Kim stated, "The significance of developing this evaluation device lies in the fact that the research institute independently implemented evaluation equipment reflecting the essential technologies required in the research field," and added, "Since it can be produced at a lower cost compared to products from leading overseas companies, it is expected to greatly aid the dissemination of domestic water electrolysis evaluation equipment."
