Emart Sinchon Branch Opens: "Competing with Fresh Food Excellence"

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Emart is opening a new store in Sinchon, Seoul.


On the 16th, Emart will open 'Emart Sinchon Branch' in Nogosan-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. It is the first new store in 20 months since the Uiwang branch in December 2018. The store occupies three floors from basement level 1 to basement level 3 in the Grand Plaza building, with a total sales area of 1884 (570 pyeong).


Emart Sinchon Branch operates mainly with a 'small-quantity grocery MD' reflecting the fact that 20-30 year-olds account for 40% of the nearby population and there are many 1-2 person households. The grocery section, including fresh and processed foods, covers 1570㎡ (475 pyeong), accounting for 83% of the total area.


The basement level 1 is mainly composed of fresh foods for grocery shopping. Small-quantity items with convenience such as sashimi and sushi for 1-2 persons, easy desserts and fruits, ultra-simple cooking vegetables, and salads are expanded by about 20-30% compared to existing Emart stores. The 'Peacock Meal Kit Zone' where customers can easily enjoy single dishes and a 'Nuts Specialty Store' are also located on basement level 1.


Basement level 2 is directly connected to Sinchon Station on Subway Line 2, and a ready-to-eat food zone is placed at the front. The ready-to-eat food zone includes 'Songsabu Croquette,' famous for handmade rice croquettes, 'Juicy Chayam,' and 'Busan Red Fish Cake.'


On basement level 2, a 218㎡ (66 pyeong) integrated liquor store called 'Wine & Liquor' targets the university district. It features a specialized store suitable for the university-age group, offering popular ultra-low-priced wines, imported beers, spirits, cocktails, fresh cheese, and baked cheese.


To celebrate the grand opening, Emart Sinchon Branch has prepared various events from the 16th to the 29th, allowing customers to enjoy abundant benefits. Grade 1 pork belly is offered at 1,380 KRW per 100g, and assorted flatfish and salmon sashimi (around 360g) for 2-3 people is sold at 16,800 KRW.


Six types of easy-to-enjoy single-serving meal salads are sold at a uniform price of 3,900 KRW, and customers can choose from about 40 imported beers at 8,800 KRW for 4 cans. Processed foods and daily necessities such as CJ Spam, Pulmuone Toktok Yeolmu Kimchi, and Oral-B toothbrushes are offered at a special 1+1 price.


Customers who purchase over 60,000 KRW by the 22nd will receive a shopping cart (limited to 10,000 units). From the 23rd to the 29th, customers who purchase over 30,000 KRW will receive a Shyrella portable water bottle, and those who purchase over 60,000 KRW will receive a 5,000 KRW Shinsegae gift certificate.


Yang Wonsik, manager of Emart Sinchon Branch, stated, “We have introduced Emart’s differentiated fresh food competitiveness to the Sinchon area. It will establish itself as the representative grocery shopping place in the Sinchon area.”
