[Asia Economy (Pyeongtaek) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Poseung (BIX) district in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, has laid the groundwork to become a hub for the eco-friendly future automobile industry by adding new industries to attract for its industrial facility sites.
The Gyeonggi-do Hwanghae Free Economic Zone Authority announced that on the 15th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy officially notified changes to the 12th development plan for the Poseung (BIX) district, adding electrical equipment and other transportation equipment to the four industrial facility site attraction industries, which include automobile, machinery equipment, electronic components, and chemical product manufacturing.
Earlier, in February, the Hwanghae Authority submitted an application for changes to the development plan containing these details and conducted consultations with related agencies. The application was approved as originally proposed at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s Free Economic Zone Committee review on the 30th of last month.
With this development plan change, the Pyeongtaek Poseung (BIX) district can now accommodate future automobile-related industries such as secondary batteries and electric two-wheelers, enabling the creation of a future-oriented advanced automobile cluster.
The Pyeongtaek Poseung (BIX) district development project is a project to create industrial facility sites, logistics facility sites, and residential complexes on a 2.04 million square meter site adjacent to Pyeongtaek Port and the Seohae Bridge. The site development construction was completed at the end of last year.
The Pyeongtaek Poseung (BIX) district is home to numerous automobile parts companies such as Kia Motors, Ssangyong Motor, Mando, BorgWarner Morse Systems, and Telstar Hommel. Additionally, it is adjacent to Pyeongtaek Port, the largest automobile export-import port in Korea, making it an optimal location for companies related to eco-friendly future automobiles such as electric vehicles.
Yang Jin-cheol, head of the Gyeonggi Hwanghae Authority, said, "The revised development plan includes a strategy to foster the Pyeongtaek Poseung (BIX) district as a center for the eco-friendly future automobile industry. This is a measure to respond to the rapid growth of the electric vehicle and personal mobility markets, which will soon lead to revitalized investment attraction."
