[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The US consumer price index for June reversed its downward trend caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and turned to an upward trend after three months.

The US Department of Labor announced on the 14th (local time) that the consumer price index for June rose by 0.6% compared to the previous month. This marked a shift from a 0.1% decrease in the previous month to an increase.

This result exceeded experts' expectations of a 0.5% increase. It is interpreted that the reopening of economic activities in many states during June led to the rise in prices.

The consumer price index for June also rose by 0.6% compared to the same month last year, expanding the increase from 0.1% in the previous month.
