COVID-19 Cases in Australia Surpass 10,000

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Australia has exceeded 10,000 for the first time.

According to local media on the 14th (local time), Australia's cumulative COVID-19 cases increased by 284 nationwide, including 270 in the southeastern state of Victoria, reaching a total of 10,251.

Since the 8th, the Victoria state government has imposed a six-week re-lockdown in Melbourne due to the second wave of COVID-19, but the spread continues with triple-digit new cases reported for nine consecutive days.

In New South Wales (NSW), adjacent to Victoria, infections are also increasing, causing health authorities to be on alert. Among the 13 new confirmed cases in NSW on that day, 11 were reported as community transmissions.

The NSW government has imposed a restriction limiting the number of customers to 300, regardless of size, at pubs and hotels identified as hotspots for community transmission.
