Boeing's Struggles Ease... $2.7 Billion Fighter Jet Contract Signed with US Air Force

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Boeing, the American aircraft manufacturer that had recently been facing difficulties, has succeeded in securing a fighter jet procurement contract with the U.S. Air Force.

According to U.S. media, Boeing signed a contract on the 13th (local time) with the U.S. Air Force for the procurement of F-15EX fighter jets worth approximately $22.8 billion (27.056 trillion KRW).

Lori Schneider, Boeing's F-15EX program manager, stated in a press release that "the F-15EX is the most advanced model among the F-15 series fighters," adding, "It excels in operational range, price, and weapons payload, making it an excellent choice for the U.S. Air Force."

Boeing received about $1.2 billion (1.4468 trillion KRW) in advance for the initial order of 8 F-15EX jets and upfront technology costs.

In addition to the 8 jets approved for purchase in this fiscal year, the U.S. Air Force requested 12 more jets for the 2021 fiscal year and plans to request an additional 76 jets over five years under the 'defense program.'
