[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Juhyung] A confirmed case of COVID-19 has been reported on a foreign-flagged vessel that docked at Gamcheon Port in Busan Port. This comes after 19 people tested positive on two Russian-flagged refrigerated cargo ships that arrived at Gamcheon Port last month.

On the 14th, the Busan Port quarantine authorities announced that one crew member of a Tuvalu-flagged deep-sea fishing vessel (499 tons) docked at the west pier of Gamcheon Port tested positive for COVID-19. The vessel arrived at Gamcheon Port on the 8th for hull repairs.

The quarantine authorities plan to discuss with Busan City the transfer of the confirmed crew member to Busan Medical Center, a hospital dedicated to infectious diseases.

There are 44 people on board the vessel, including the confirmed case, raising the possibility of additional infections. The quarantine authorities are conducting specimen tests on the remaining 43 crew members and plan to announce the test results in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, on the 22nd of last month, multiple confirmed cases were reported on the Russian-flagged refrigerated cargo ship "Ice Stream" (3,933 tons, 21 crew members) at Gamcheon Port.

At that time, 16 crew members tested positive, followed by 2 additional positive cases. Additionally, one crew member on the "Ice Crystal" (3,970 tons, 21 crew members), a vessel from the same shipping company docked right next to it, also tested positive.

These 19 confirmed cases were transferred to Busan Medical Center for hospitalization and treatment, and all were discharged sequentially, with all discharged by the 10th.
