[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province collected 2.1 billion KRW, which is 49.2% of the total outstanding water bill arrears of 4.3 billion KRW carried over in the first half of this year.
Earlier, from January to June this year, Yongin City operated a special task force targeting high-amount and habitual defaulters, conducting strong collection activities such as seizing real estate and deposits and suspending water supply.
Among 12,941 defaulters, the city first induced 22 people to pay in installments, collecting 14 million KRW, seized assets in 85 cases to collect 149 million KRW, and through the special task force collected 42 million KRW from 320 high-amount defaulters.
The city also provided support by resuming water supply for low-income defaulters who have difficulty maintaining their livelihood or by postponing disposals for those affected by COVID-19.
A city official emphasized, "In the second half of the year, we will strengthen management of small-amount arrears to minimize the default rate and actively help the recovery of low-income defaulters by stopping the disposal of long-term seized assets that have no liquidation value."
Meanwhile, on the 9th, the city held a second-quarter (April to June) water bill special task force operation evaluation meeting attended by all staff of the Water Administration Division to discuss future collection plans.
