[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Nuclear Workers' Union Coalition (Wonnoryeon) announced that it will start a 1100km nationwide relay rally urging the resumption of construction of Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4.
On the 14th at 1 PM, Wonnoryeon held a press conference in front of the Blue House Fountain Plaza to announce the start of the relay rally opposing nuclear phase-out and demanding the resumption of construction of Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4.
The press conference was organized by the Nationwide Signature Campaign Headquarters for the Resumption of Construction of Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4. Wonnoryeon, composed of about 14,000 union members from seven companies including Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and Doosan Heavy Industries, participated.
The participants argued that resuming construction of Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 is the only way to maintain the nuclear industry ecosystem, establish measures for job security for workers, and resolve related issues.
They stated, "Due to the government's irresponsible nuclear phase-out policy, restructuring has begun at Doosan Heavy Industries, the world's leading manufacturer of nuclear main equipment," adding, "The nuclear construction technology, which was a representative national competitive advantage, has collapsed, and thousands of workers are being pushed onto the streets under the names of leave of absence, suspension, and honorary retirement."
Starting with the press conference in front of the Blue House, they plan to visit eight nuclear industry regions including Changwon and Uljin to share demands such as the resumption of construction of Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 with the public.
