[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Jong-in, Emergency Committee Chairman of the United Future Party, responded to evaluations calling him a political turncoat or election mercenary by saying, "I am not someone who lives subordinated to an individual."
At a Kwanhun Club meeting held at the Press Center on the 14th, Chairman Kim said about such evaluations, "I went to the Saenuri Party to help President Park Geun-hye in the general election, then went to the Democratic Party to secure a majority in the 2015 general election, and now I have come to the United Future Party, so the talk of being a political turncoat can arise."
He revealed, "I have never gone anywhere for personal gain," adding, "Even during President Park's candidacy, I said, 'I'm not trying to get a position under you.'"
Chairman Kim explained the reason, saying, "When I was in the opposition party, I criticized the ruling party, and if I became the ruling party, I shouldn't do what the old ruling party did, but they are repeating those actions." "Seeing that, I thought we shouldn't leave things as they are."
He said, "There are people within the United Future Party who are dissatisfied with me," but added, "However, change cannot happen without being criticized. I do not pay attention to being called a political turncoat."
In his closing remarks, Chairman Kim said, "As the Emergency Committee Chairman of the United Future Party, I will do my best to fundamentally reform the party so that the United Future Party can take power and gain trust as 'now this party can be trusted.'"
