[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] LG Hausys, in collaboration with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, has completed renovation work on the ‘Uiam Son Byeong-hui Memorial Hall’ as part of its support activities for the restoration of national memorial facilities.
On the 14th, LG Hausys held a completion ceremony for the facility improvements at the ‘Uiam Son Byeong-hui Memorial Hall’ located in Bukim-myeon, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju, Chungbuk. Attendees included Son Yoon, Chairman of the Uiam Son Byeong-hui Memorial Project Association, Han Beom-deok, Mayor of Cheongju, Lee Nam-il, Director of the Daejeon Regional Veterans Office, and Kang Gye-woong, CEO of LG Hausys.
Uiam Son Byeong-hui was one of the 33 national representatives who led the Declaration of Independence and stood at the center of the March 1st Movement. Believing that strengthening national capabilities was the most urgent task, Son Byeong-hui took over Boseong School and Dongduk School to carry out independence activities focused on education.
To honor his contributions, the government posthumously awarded him the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Republic of Korea, in 1962. Last year, he was also selected as the ‘Independence Activist of March 2019’ by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, the Liberation Association, and the Independence Hall of Korea jointly.
The Uiam Son Byeong-hui Memorial Hall exhibits records and relics of Son Byeong-hui’s life, as well as materials that inform visitors about the independence movement in Cheongju and the history of Korea’s March 1st Movement. Since its opening in 2000, the entrance and exhibition rooms had become significantly aged.
Accordingly, LG Hausys supported the renovation by providing its windows, flooring materials, and interior films for the entrance and exhibition rooms of the memorial hall. They also carried out facility improvements such as electrical wiring and replacement of outdated lighting, enabling visitors to use the memorial hall in a more comfortable environment.
At the facility improvement completion ceremony, Son Yoon, Chairman of the Uiam Son Byeong-hui Memorial Project Association, expressed gratitude, saying, "With the support of LG Hausys and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, we will strive to ensure that Son Byeong-hui’s noble spirit of independence is passed down to future generations through the newly renovated memorial hall."
Kang Gye-woong, CEO of LG Hausys, said, "As a company with a factory in Cheongju, we are honored to contribute even a little to the improvement of the memorial hall honoring Son Byeong-hui, a representative independence activist of Cheongju. Going forward, as a leading domestic building materials company, we will continue to carry out patriotic social contribution activities utilizing our business capabilities."
Meanwhile, since 2015, LG Hausys has completed renovation work on a total of 10 national memorial facilities and supported the improvement of living environments for 28 national merit recipients, including descendants of independence patriots and Korean War veterans.
