Seocho-gu Heatwave Mobile Shelter Yangsan Rental Service~~~

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Jo) has officially launched the heatwave mobile shelters and Seoripul parasol rental service to ensure a safe summer.

Earlier, starting from July 1, when a heatwave warning was expected, the district began operating heatwave mobile shelters for elderly residents vulnerable to extreme heat.

The heatwave mobile shelters, utilizing camping cars, operate mainly in heat-vulnerable areas such as Narumauel in Jamwon-dong and Jeonwonmaeul in Bangbae-dong, moving locations every weekday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Inside the heatwave mobile shelters, bottled water and cooling supplies are provided.

Additionally, dental masks and hand sanitizers are available, temperature checks are conducted upon entry, and daily internal disinfection is performed to minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection.

In fact, the response from elderly residents has been positive. An Jung-ja (74), a resident of Jamwon-dong, said, “Because of COVID-19, we cannot even go to senior centers, so I am very grateful that Seocho-gu Office has prepared a space using camping cars to cool down during the hot summer days.”

Alongside this, the district is implementing a resident-focused heatwave countermeasure project by providing the ‘Seoripul parasol’ rental service from July 13 to September 30. This measure aims to prevent heat-related illnesses such as dehydration and heat exhaustion among residents exposed to heat while outdoors. The ‘Seoripul parasols,’ which feature effective UV-blocking blackout coating and distinctive designs, will be stocked at 18 community service centers with 200 units each, totaling 3,600 parasols. Any Seocho-gu resident can present their ID at a nearby community service center and rent a Seoripul parasol for up to three days.

Mayor Eunhee Jo stated, “We prepared the heatwave mobile shelters and Seoripul parasol rental service in advance before the full onset of the heat,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that no residents suffer from the heatwave this summer.”
