[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon criticized some members of the Democratic Party of Korea for referring to Secretary A, who accused the late Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon of sexual harassment, as a "woman claiming to be a victim," saying this indicates "an unwillingness to acknowledge the fact of sexual harassment."
On the 14th, Jin wrote on his Facebook, "What does 'woman claiming to be a victim' mean? Is this that damn 'presumption of innocence' again?"
He continued, "Don't be fooled. The basic stance of the Democratic Party was well expressed by Representative Jin Sung-jun," adding, "Calling the perpetrator a perpetrator and the victim a victim is considered 'defamation of the deceased.' This is the official position of the Democratic Party."
He said, "Instead of using the word 'victim,' creating and using the unfamiliar neologism 'woman claiming to be a victim' means they have no intention of acknowledging the sexual harassment," and criticized the Democratic Party, saying, "They are just pretending to apologize under public pressure, and intend to close the case and move on. So they want to leave it forever under the presumption of innocence."
Jin also demanded, "Reporters, please ask the Democratic Party what 'woman claiming to be a victim' means and how they plan to investigate the truth going forward."
Earlier, on the 13th, Democratic Party leader Lee Hae-chan issued an official apology regarding Mayor Park's death through party chief spokesperson Kang Hoon-sik. At that time, Lee expressed "condolences for the pain" to Secretary A, who accused Mayor Park of sexual harassment, but referred to A not as a "victim" but as a "woman claiming to be a victim."
