"There Are Times When We Must Say Goodbye to What We Were Familiar With"
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Son Seokhee, president of JTBC, recently shared an update after a long time through his fan club, saying he is "doing well."
On the 11th, Son posted a message titled "Hello, this is Son Seokhee" on his fan cafe, 'Journalist Son Seokhee Fan Club.'
In the post, he said, "I changed my glasses. Not because I wanted to, but because I lost the glasses I had been wearing," and added, "I had worn them for 20 years, and when the temple arm broke, I even used other temple arms to fix them because I was so attached, but I accidentally left them in a taxi."
He continued, "I thought about getting similar glasses but deliberately did not, because there is no pair exactly like those in the world anyway."
Son said, "At some point in life, there comes a time to say goodbye to the things you have been familiar with. Sometimes all at once."
He added, "Looking at the news every day, contemplating the anchor briefing, and even choosing the ending music?those familiar routines now seem somewhat harsh in retrospect. Having spent decades on a razor's edge, coming down to flat ground feels unfamiliar, but the truth is that life on flat ground is much better."
Son also said, "The COVID-19 pandemic, which started before we knew it, demands a different daily life. We suspect someone, distance ourselves from someone, hate someone, and yet we miss the world where we lived together with those very people."
He reflected, "It feels like less than half a year has passed since the outbreak, but I constantly wonder if it is right to be certain that the world ahead will inevitably be different from the world before."
In conclusion, Son said, "However, time flows, and whatever happens gets buried in that time, and I am doing well. The post I am sharing today is the signal I am sending to you."
Meanwhile, freelance reporter Kim Woong (50), who was indicted for demanding employment and money from Son under the pretext of reporting on a past vehicle collision, was detained in the first trial.
The Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 4 (Judge Park Yonggeun) sentenced Kim to six months in prison on the 8th for attempted extortion.
Kim was charged with demanding employment and 240 million KRW from Son between August 2018 and January 2019, threatening to report on a 2017 parking lot collision and to file an assault accusation, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
Below is the message Son left on his fan cafe.
