Gwangju Seo-gu Council's Proactive Response to COVID-19 Spread Draws Attention

Temporary Meeting from 14th to 22nd Demands Non-Attendance of Department Heads... Meeting Held with Minimum Personnel

Gwangju Seo-gu Council's Proactive Response to COVID-19 Spread Draws Attention

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] As the COVID-19 situation shows no signs of subsiding, with 135 confirmed cases reported in Gwangju over 17 days, a local council is drawing attention by deciding to hold a temporary session with minimized gathering numbers.

According to the Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 13th, the 287th temporary session will be held from the 14th to the 22nd.

The schedule includes the 1st plenary session on the 14th, activities of each standing committee from the 15th to the 20th, the 2nd plenary session on the 21st, and the 3rd plenary session on the 22nd.

Seo-gu Council decided to minimize the number of attendees during this temporary session to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and reduce work gaps.

Generally, plenary sessions are attended by department heads and above, but this time only directors, planning office chiefs, and audit officers will attend.

Additionally, for the general report by the Director of the Autonomous Administration Bureau scheduled for the Planning and General Affairs Committee on the 15th, relevant department heads were instructed not to attend.

Work reports were also planned to be conducted in writing or via video conference, but due to current system limitations, this will be gradually improved.

This decision was reportedly made at the full Seo-gu council meeting held on the 7th.

Kim Taeyoung, Chairperson of Seo-gu Council, said, “All public officials are extremely busy due to COVID-19, so we minimized the number of attendees at the temporary session to reduce work gaps and prevent the spread of the virus. Everyone is exhausted from the daily rise in confirmed cases, but if we all make a little effort together, we can stop the spread of COVID-19.”
