KFTC Launches Mobile Employee ID Service Based on Decentralized ID

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] The Korea Financial Telecommunications and Clearings Institute (KFTC) announced on the 13th that it will implement a decentralized ID-based mobile employee ID card service for all employees. The service features enhanced security and convenience by applying blockchain-based decentralized ID technology.

The mobile employee ID card is an integrated online and offline identity verification service that consolidates the dual offline and online identity verification systems into a single ID card. KFTC employees can receive a digital ID on their smartphones to handle office access, internal work portal system access, and training system login all with one mobile employee ID card. KFTC issued mobile employee ID cards to all employees regardless of whether they use iPhones or Android phones, based on smartphone near-field communication (NFC) functionality.

The mobile employee ID card can only be used through biometric authentication such as fingerprint recognition, eliminating the risk of personal information exposure even if the card is lost. Additionally, issuance and usage history of the employee ID cards are stored on an immutable blockchain, enabling secure management of access control records.

A KFTC official stated, "We plan to continue expanding decentralized ID-based services that enhance both convenience and security," adding, "We will share our know-how in developing and operating decentralized ID-based services with financial companies and do our best as a platform operator to build and operate a decentralized ID platform for financial service innovation."
