'Late Choi Sook-hyun and Others Assaulted' Gyeongju City Hall Team Doctor Faces Arrest Decision Today

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] A sports therapist, Ahn Mo (45), who has been identified as the main perpetrator in the repeated assault of the late triathlete Choi Sook-hyun, is facing detention.

The Daegu District Court will hold a pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant review) for Ahn on the afternoon of the 13th. The decision on whether to detain him is expected to be made as early as late that afternoon.

Ahn is one of the main suspects accused of assaulting and harassing Choi while she was a member of the Gyeongju City Hall Triathlon Team, which led to her taking extreme measures. In particular, he is suspected of repeatedly assaulting and verbally abusing Choi during training camps in New Zealand last year, as well as sexually harassing female teammates. Additionally, he is accused of introducing himself to Gyeongju City Hall athletes and their parents as a licensed physician from the United States and receiving money after providing massages to athletes following training sessions, violating the Special Act on the Control of Health-related Crimes.

The Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency’s Metropolitan Investigation Unit applied for an arrest warrant for Ahn on the 12th. After failing to appear for an investigation by the Gyeongju City Sports Council on the 2nd due to health reasons, Ahn cut off contact with the outside and went into hiding but was apprehended by police on the afternoon of the 10th at a one-room apartment in Buk-gu, Daegu. It is reported that Ahn admitted to most of the assault charges during the subsequent police investigation.
