[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] Bae Hyun-jin, a member of the Future United Party, is causing controversy by insisting that the allegations of military service corruption involving the late Park Won-soon, former Mayor of Seoul, and his son Joo-shin must be resolved. The ruling party urged an immediate apology, stating that the allegations have already been dismissed as groundless.

On the 11th, Bae posted on her Facebook, "Park Joo-shin, whom many have been looking for, has returned to Korea," adding, "The second trial regarding the 'military service corruption allegations' has been suspended for over a year." She wrote, "In a will written by Joo-shin's father 18 years ago, it was stated that 'honesty and sincerity' are the family's legacy. I expect Park Joo-shin to uphold his father's wishes."

She continued, "I hope he will confidently undergo a re-examination, attend the second trial, and bring a clean conclusion to the allegations that have long troubled his father."

In response, Song Gap-seok, spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, rebutted on the same day, saying, "Immediately apologize for the insulting remarks against Mayor Park and his bereaved family, and stop making baseless allegations."

He added, "From start to finish, it is wrong," explaining, "The second trial mentioned by Bae does not exist. The charges of violating military service laws against Park Joo-shin were dismissed as 'no charges' in 2013."

Furthermore, he stated, "In 2012, Park publicly underwent an MRI scan, proving that the claims raised by then-National Assembly member Kang Yong-seok were false. However, allegations regarding Park's military service continued to be spread," adding, "Those who led this were reported for violating the Public Official Election Act and were fined."

He explained, "The ongoing trial is not a second trial involving Park himself, but a trial related to charges of violating the Public Official Election Act against those who raised the military service corruption allegations."

Regarding this, former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon posted consecutively on his Facebook on the 12th, criticizing Bae, saying, "The allegations of military service corruption against Park Joo-shin have already been thoroughly resolved."

In his first post, Jin said, "If you want to criticize, do it properly. Picking up irrelevant issues and attacking someone who is mourning his father?what on earth are you thinking? Do you have udon noodles in your head?" He criticized, "The opposition party has always been stumbling and making mistakes, so the Future United Party is hopeless."

In another post, mentioning Bae by name, he said, "Such unreasonable criticism only tarnishes the image of the United Party," adding, "This incident shows that the United Party is not free from the influence of hardline extremists with stone-headed stubbornness who are trapped in their own world and have completely lost the ability to communicate with reality."
