Recruitment of Users Among Nearby Residents in July, Full Operation Starting in August
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yuseong Hoon) will create a small-scale public parking lot in the residential area of Siheung 5-dong, which is suffering from illegal parking in narrow alleys, and open it to residents starting in August.
Siheung 5-dong is known as one of the areas with poor parking conditions within the district due to the dense concentration of old houses without parking lots. In particular, illegal parking of vehicles throughout the alleys makes it difficult for fire trucks to pass during fires, designating the area as fire-vulnerable, thus threatening residents' safety.
To improve the poor parking environment in Siheung 5-dong, the district has been promoting the Siheung 5-dong public parking lot construction project with a total budget of 1.2 billion KRW, including a 650 million KRW subsidy from Seoul City last year.
In November last year, the district purchased two old houses in the 929 area of Siheung 5-dong to secure the project site, demolished the existing houses, and completed pavement work, finishing the public parking lot on June 30.
The newly created public parking lot is a flat-type small-scale parking lot with 7 parking spaces installed on a 188㎡ site. The district plans to recruit users among nearby residents in July and officially operate it from August.
The district will also create a small-scale public parking lot with a total of 13 spaces in Doksan 2-dong, where parking difficulties are severe, in October, and plans to start construction next year on an underground public parking lot with 105 spaces utilizing the Doksan 2-dong village park site.
Geumcheon-gu Mayor Yuseong Hoon said, “We will continuously improve the local parking environment by exploring various methods such as constructing public parking lots, opening parking lots attached to large commercial and office facilities, the Green Parking project, and the ARS parking sharing project.”
