Mapo Central Library Recruiting Resident Writers for 'Solo Creative Space' Writing Rooms

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) is recruiting the second batch of resident writers for the single-person writing rooms located within the Mapo Central Library to support the creative activities of authors.

Amid the ongoing suspension of operations at public cultural facilities such as libraries and art galleries due to the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Mapo Central Library, which resumed some services starting in July, has delivered welcome news to writers.

Mapo-gu is recruiting two residents for the second term of the single-person writing rooms established inside the Mapo Central Library to support the creative activities of writers whose activities have been curtailed.

The six writing rooms located on the 5th floor of the library each have an area of 10.66㎡ and are equipped with desks, chairs, lighting, sofas, and other facilities. Being located inside the library offers the advantage of easy access to various books and materials needed for writing.

Also, as these are independent single-person rooms, writers can continue their creative work in a safe and comfortable environment while minimizing interaction with others.

Applicants eligible to apply are writers who have debuted through domestic new writer contests or professional literary media, writers or translators with published works, contributors to online or offline daily newspapers and magazines, or those equivalent to writers.

The usage period for the writing rooms is from August to September, with the possibility of extension in three-month increments. The usage fee is 144,000 KRW per month.

Resident writers are given opportunities to share their talents through at least one lecture or contribution aimed at youth.

The application period is from the 13th to the 20th, and applications can be submitted in person at the Youth Education Center Team on the 4th floor of Mapo Central Library or via email (jun730216@mapo.go.kr).

The results of the selection will be announced on the 27th on the Mapo Central Library website.

For more details, please check the notices on the Mapo Central Library website, and for further inquiries, contact the Youth Education Center Team at Mapo Central Library.

Mayor Yudonggyun of Mapo-gu said, “We look forward to the interest and applications from literary artists seeking their own creative space,” adding, “We will continue to strive to establish support measures that guarantee continuity in the creative activities of cultural and artistic professionals.”
