Gwanak-gu Supports Security Bars for Single Women Households

Contributing to a Safe Living Environment through Installation and Support of Security Window Bars, Insect Screens, and Safety Bells

Gwanak-gu Supports Security Bars for Single Women Households

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is promoting a project to install and support Safe Homes and Safe Stores to ensure the safe residential life of single female households.

Following last year, having been selected for the Seoul Safe Village Creation Contest for the second consecutive time, the district plans to create a safe living environment free from crimes targeting women by supporting the Safe Home 3-piece set project (auxiliary door key, door opening sensor, portable emergency bell) along with support for single female households and stores.

The Safe Home installation and support project provides installation and support for one of either a security window or a safety screen to single female households living in rental homes with a deposit under 150 million KRW.

Four neighborhoods with densely packed residential areas and high risk of intrusion due to steep slopes (Cheongnyong-dong, Sinwon-dong, Seowon-dong, Seorim-dong) have been selected as pilot areas, with plans to support 200 households.

If applications exceed the quota, priority will be given to households with lower deposit amounts and poor living conditions (such as basements or semi-basements), and selections will be made by the Safe Village Promotion Council based on an internal evaluation sheet.

The Safe Store installation and support project installs and supports emergency bells in stores operated solely by single female owners, creating safe stores free from crimes targeting women and helping female small business owners with their economic activities.

In case of an emergency, pressing the emergency bell connects through the Safe Network to the district’s CCTV control center, and if the situation is judged urgent, the control officer requests police dispatch to the scene.

The support target is 25 locations, and only businesses with internet access are eligible.

Residents wishing to apply can download the application form from the Gwanak-gu Office website (News & Notices → Announcements) and submit it to the local community service center or the Women and Family Division from the 13th to the 31st.

Meanwhile, following the designation as a Women-Friendly City in 2020, the “Gwanak Crime-Free Safe City (TF)” inauguration ceremony was held on the 26th of last month, designating the Women and Family Division as the general department.

The district plans to discover new projects tailored to local characteristics for the safety of vulnerable groups such as women, establish a mid- to long-term crime prevention and safety project roadmap, and prepare comprehensive measures for crime prevention through organic cooperation with the Gwanak Police Station.

Mayor Park Jun-hee of Gwanak-gu said, “We will actively promote various projects suited to the regional characteristic of having the highest proportion (26.3%) of single female households nationwide and do our best to create a safe city Gwanak where vulnerable groups such as women can live with peace of mind.”
