Gyeongbuk Province Invites COVID-19 Medical Staff for 'Tourism Support'... Divided into 3 Phases

Medical Personnel Dispatched to Gyeongbuk and Their Families, Over 440 People

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 12th that it will invite medical personnel and their families who devotedly participated in treating local COVID-19 patients during the early spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) to provide travel services.

This project is tailored for 188 medical personnel (including families, totaling 592 people) who applied to participate in the Gyeongbuk tourism service out of over 440 medical personnel dispatched from all over the country to Gyeongbuk, offering sightseeing trips or healing experiences.

In the first phase, 152 people (49 medical personnel and 103 family members) participated in family-oriented trips centered around the Gyeongju and Pohang areas on the 10th and 11th. On the 11th, Gyeongsangbuk-do held a meeting to invite medical personnel who supported Gyeongbuk at the Lahan Hotel in Gyeongju and presented plaques of appreciation as a token of gratitude.

Kang Seong-jo, Deputy Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do, expressed his thanks at the meeting, saying, "When Gyeongbuk went through a difficult time due to the spread of COVID-19, the active support and dedication of the medical staff were a great help in overcoming COVID-19. I hope this occasion can be a small way to repay the medical personnel present here today."

Meanwhile, Gyeongsangbuk-do is preparing a second phase focused on mind and body healing trips emerging after COVID-19. Starting from mid-July, programs will include a 'Temple Stay Experience' combining Buddhist traditional temple mountain meditation and healing content, a 'Soul Stay Experience' linked with Catholic communication and meditation retreat activities, and a 'Christian Holy Site Exploration Program' combining Christian holy sites and tourism content.

In late August, Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to collaborate with the Daegu-Gyeongbuk branch of the Korea Tourism Organization to promote a third phase of appreciation events for medical personnel who supported Gyeongbuk during COVID-19, with detailed plans currently under discussion.
