[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A woman who accused singer Kim Gun-mo (52) of sexual assault and was subsequently sued by Kim for false accusation has been referred to the prosecution with a non-indictment opinion. Additionally, Kim filed a defamation suit against a woman who claimed he assaulted her but later withdrew the complaint. The truth about the Kim Gun-mo case is gradually coming to light.
On the 7th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul transferred Ms. A, who is suspected of false accusation and other charges, to the prosecution with a non-indictment opinion from the previous day.
Attorney Kang Yong-seok, who represents Ms. A, raised allegations last December on his YouTube channel "Garo Sero Research Institute (Gaseyeon)" that Kim sexually assaulted Ms. A, who previously worked at a room salon. Ms. A appeared on Gaseyeon and claimed, "In August 2016, at a pub in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, I was sexually assaulted by Kim," and subsequently filed a complaint against Kim. In response, Kim filed countersuits for defamation and false accusation.
Earlier in April, Kim filed a defamation suit under the Information and Communications Network Act against Ms. B, who claimed she was assaulted by him, but later withdrew the complaint. The police forwarded the case to the prosecution with a "lack of prosecution" opinion. The reason for Kim's withdrawal of the complaint has not been disclosed.
Similarly, Ms. B, who appeared on Gaseyeon last December, alleged that Kim punched her multiple times at a nightclub in 2007. Kim filed a defamation suit against Ms. B under the Information and Communications Network Act in January.
The police began investigating Kim for sexual assault charges in December last year and referred the case to the prosecution with a prosecution opinion on March 25 of this year, four months later.
The police seized Kim's vehicle and secured records from the vehicle's GPS system, conducting forensic analysis. In January, Kim was summoned and questioned for 12 hours.
However, Kim has consistently denied the sexual assault allegations. After completing the police investigation, Kim said in the lobby of the Gangnam Police Station's first floor, "I answered sincerely during the police investigation and hope the truth will be revealed soon," adding, "I sincerely apologize to the public for causing concern."
