Chungnam Distributes Air Purifiers to Families with Newborns Near Thermal Power Plants

[Asia Economy (Naepo) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province will distribute air purifiers to families with newborns near coal-fired power plants in the region.

On the 12th, the province announced that it will provide air purifiers to manage the health of infants and prevent damage, in accordance with the "Ordinance on the Distribution of Air Purifiers to Infant Families in Areas Surrounding Coal-Fired Power Plants in Chungnam."

The distribution targets families who gave birth last year in towns and townships located within a 5 km radius of coal-fired power plants, including Jugyo-myeon and Ocheon-myeon in Boryeong City, Seokmun-myeon in Dangjin City, Seo-myeon in Seocheon County, and Wonbuk-myeon and Iwon-myeon in Taean County.

Applications are possible if the parents of the eligible infant have had their address registered in the relevant town or township for at least 10 months as of January 1 of this year, and the infant has actually resided in the same town or township since birth.

Additionally, cases where the infant cannot live with both parents due to unavoidable reasons such as the death of one parent after the infant's birth, divorce, or occupational reasons, as well as infants born to unmarried fathers or mothers, are also eligible for support if the infant is registered and residing with one parent.

However, if the infant's address changes to another region within one year after receiving the air purifier, the recipient must return an amount calculated by applying a residence period-based refund ratio to the value of the air purifier at the time of distribution.

To apply for the air purifier distribution, the parent or guardian must visit the relevant town or township office and submit the application form along with related documents such as copies of the applicant's and infant's resident registration or family relation certificate, and transcript.
