Customized Behavioral Correction for Problematic Dogs Popular in Seongdong-gu

50 Dogs Undergo '1-on-1 Customized Behavior Correction Program'... Providing Problem Behavior Solutions and Supporting the Spread of Proper Pet Culture, Pet Video Contest Also Held

Customized Behavioral Correction for Problematic Dogs Popular in Seongdong-gu

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] “Our dog Tori, who used to growl at other dogs, has changed.”

On the 9th, Hwang Jeong-hyun, the owner of the dog ‘Tori,’ who received customized training at ‘Bauraum,’ a professional dog training center in Haengdang-dong, Seongdong-gu, expressed great satisfaction.

Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) recruited 50 households struggling with problematic behaviors of their dogs in May.

In the era of 10 million companion animals, Seongdong-gu has stepped up to support solving various difficulties encountered while raising dogs through customized behavior correction training.

The training has been conducted since the 19th of last month, where dog owners visit the training center at their preferred time and receive individual consultations with animal behavior experts. Problematic behaviors such as aggression and separation anxiety are analyzed, and solutions are provided in a 120-minute one-on-one customized session.

Hwang said, “There were many times when our dog Tori had trouble socializing with other dogs and showed aggression. I really hoped to be selected when applying, and I’m so happy to receive this free solution. I want to continue training with my family using the methods suggested by the instructor and enjoy life with Tori.”

Lee Hye-won, director of Bauraum and a dog training expert, said, “There are various cases where pregnant owners ask for help adapting their dogs after the baby is born, or where newly introduced dogs fight all day because they were brought in to keep the dog company. Professional education and training for problematic behaviors are essential for a happy and enjoyable companionship with dogs.”

Since forming a dedicated pet team in January this year, the district has been promoting various pet-related projects beyond this program to spread a proper animal welfare culture.

They are conducting owner education for dog socialization, pet etiquette campaigns with animal protection honorary monitors, and plan to hold a festival called ‘Pet Hanmadang’ in the second half of the year where pets and residents can participate together.

Since the 1st of last month, a ‘Video Contest with Pets’ has been underway. By submitting videos about pet-raising know-how and training methods by July 31, winners will be awarded prizes up to 500,000 KRW after screening.

The winning entries will be used as resident participation videos for Seongdong-gu’s pet policies for education and promotion. Details and participation methods can be found on the Seongdong-gu Office website.

Jeong Won-oh, mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “As the number of pet-owning households rapidly increases, conflicts among residents due to problematic behaviors such as pet waste, noise, and biting incidents are rising. This leads to social issues like abandonment due to giving up pet ownership and increased public anxiety. We plan to implement various policies to establish a culture of coexistence between pets and residents.”
