Daegu City Selects 5 Items for 'Gourmet Tourism Product' Contest

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City announced on the 12th that five products were selected as the final excellent products in the final judging of the '2nd Daegu Tourism It Hero,' a tourism expert training program hosted by the Daegu Tourism Bureau.

This project, which began in February, aims to nurture promising startups in Daegu's three major cultural gourmet tourism sectors. The hero trainees consist of young entrepreneurs aged 19 to 39 who are preparing to start a business in the gourmet field or have started a business within the last two years.

The participants included young entrepreneurs with extensive field experience such as selling food at Seomun Market and Chilseong Night Market, renting modern clothing, and running cafes, as well as trainees with diverse backgrounds such as chocolatiers and gourmet tourism creators. The program was conducted in three stages: gourmet tourism product development consulting, gourmet tourism item competition, and support for commercialization of tourism items.

The grand prize was awarded to 'Family Adventure Play Sinseoyugyo,' which targets children and combines Confucian education of the three major cultures with major tourist attractions in Daegu.

The excellent works included 'Chilseong Osaeksalppang' from Chilseong Night Market, developed with the motif of five colors symbolizing colorful Daegu; 'Hanbang Garijjim (braised ribs)' based on herbal medicine ingredients from Yakryeongsi; 'Dalgubeol 1-minute Flat Dumplings,' branding Daegu's 10 famous flat dumplings; and 'Eatgoing Daegu Gastro Photo Tour,' which tours famous restaurants and captures beautiful photos as artworks.

The five selected items will receive support worth a total of 40 million KRW for prototype production, commercialization testing, domestic market development, and promotional marketing. Prospective entrepreneurs will also receive administrative support such as business registration, startup patent applications, and industrial property rights applications.

Jeogal Jinsu, Director of Tourism at Daegu City, said, "We aim to create unique gourmet products exclusive to Daegu to tempt the taste buds of many travelers," adding, "We will nurture entrepreneurs who can immediately enter the market beyond simple course completion to create a synergistic effect throughout the Daegu tourism industry."
