[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Korea Environment Institute (KEI) and the Korea Energy Economics Institute signed a memorandum of understanding on the 9th to promote mutual cooperation in research on climate, energy, and air quality.
In response to the acceleration of national Green New Deal initiatives and energy transition policies, the two institutions will share information in the fields of climate, energy, and air quality and conduct joint research to address current issues.
To advance the environment and energy sectors, they plan to hold biannual research councils and establish and operate working-level councils to discuss details such as cooperation on research projects, themes of the research councils, timing, and methods of meetings.
KEI is currently conducting research with the Korea Energy Economics Institute on scenario analysis and implementation plans for the energy sector in a 2050 low-carbon society, as well as strategies for the Korean-style Green New Deal energy sector.
Through this memorandum of understanding, they plan to engage in more active discussions on energy transition promotion measures, including carbon emission reduction, fossil fuel dependency, and the supply and expansion of renewable energy.
Yoon Je-yong, President of KEI, stated, "We hope to combine our efforts to successfully promote energy transition, a core policy of the Green New Deal, not only to wisely overcome the post-COVID-19 era but also to build a sustainable society."
