[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon sharply rebutted former Democratic Party lawmaker Choi Min-hee's criticism that the Justice Party is politicizing the condolence over the late Park Won-soon, former Mayor of Seoul.
On the 11th, Jin posted on Facebook, "If you think now is the time to shut up and mourn, then you should shut up and mourn yourself." This was in response to former lawmaker Choi's criticism of Justice Party members who decided not to pay their respects, asking, "Why is the Justice Party politicizing the condolence?"
Jin said, "Is it politicizing to say that it is inappropriate to pay respects to someone who caused suffering to a woman for years?" and targeted Choi by saying, "If you think now is the time to mourn, then you should shut up and mourn yourself."
He continued, "You can't stand it and inevitably turn feminism's agenda into a political agenda," adding, "This is the reality your daughter will face when she goes out into society. Think about your daughter going out into such a scary world."
Jin also pointed out, "Even the country's leading human rights lawyer and a mayor who usually claimed to be a feminist did such things. Imagine how much worse others must be," and said, "Those two lawmakers are talking about how the society your daughter will live in should change in the future."
Meanwhile, on the previous day, Justice Party lawmaker Ryu Ho-jeong expressed solidarity with the former Seoul City Hall employee who accused Mayor Park of sexual harassment and expressed concerns about secondary harm, stating her refusal to pay respects. Justice Party leader Shim Sang-jung also mentioned after visiting Mayor Park's funeral that "the person who may be in the most pain is the victim." Justice Party lawmaker Jang Hye-young said, "I cannot mourn as if nothing happened."
